Thought To Ponder Freedom is essentially a condition of inequality, not equality. It recognizes as a fact of nature the structural differences inherent in man - in temperament, character, and capacity - and it respects those differences. We are not alike and no law can make us so. |

Dr. Dexter Johnson Assistant Law Professor C.O.B. - 25 September 2006 15:50- BRC response
- The National Health Insurance [ tax] issue highlights an alarming trend: legislate everything which government thinks needs fixing. What 's next ? Should 'education for all' prompt a National Education Insurance [tax]? Or 'affordable housing for all', a National Housing Insurance [tax]? Or Family Island development: a National Family Island Dev. Insurance[ tax]. This NHS [tax] argument can extend to whatever the PLP think up. At the very heart of all this is how far should we allow big brother to abolish all our choices in the name of what the PLP think is 'good for us'.
True freedom is reflected in having choices. Too many persons have tried to be 'politically correct', on this instead of grasping the nettle as we now do. This entire issue is a fundamental assault on our freedom of choices. Let it be decided in a REFERENDUM. If we are free people, the least we deserve is to have a real say in whether or not this burden is to be accepted.
The Bahamian National Party does not intend to be bound by this tax, and will repeal it immediately on taking office as government. Only if it is supported by a REFERENDUM, will we accept its validity, not on its merit, as is has none, but on the authority of a REFERENDUM in favor of it. Let the Bahamian people vote on this health tax. If it is so good they will say yes. It should be their choice, not something forced on them.
Freedom is a must, and the preservation of real choice is a major component in Freedom.
